It was snowing hard and fast! What a wonderful surprise! The weather people didn’t see it coming at all and were shocked when it arrived.

Since the garbage had come early that morning, we figured we better get the garbage cans inside before our driveway got too bad. Unfortunately, we were a little too late! The Wayneman had to hoof it down the field next door since the driveway was already slick with only a dusting.

It didn’t take long for the snow to start accumulating. This picture was taken just about 10 minutes after the Wayneman came up with the garbage cans. Good thing we didn’t wait any longer!

Oh how I LOVE a good snowstorm! It makes everything so cozy when you are all bundled up at home! I was so excited to see it coming down. Nice big flakes too!

Cicely and Maggie love the snow more than just about anything. They were super excited when they went outside in it. Maggie couldn’t contain herself at the first sight of this winter’s first snow! She was so excited as soon as she stepped out into it!

Those girls love chasing the Wayneman in the snow. They also love eating it too. If Cic eats the snow, she throws up a few minutes later - the crazy girl. That doesn’t stop them from eating it up though!

After an hour or so of snowfall, I took the girls outside to play some more before it got dark. I love throwing snowballs at them. As soon as I pick one up, Cicely starts barking at me. When I throw it, they can never figure out where the snowball went since it just disappears in the snow when it lands. This provides us with some nice entertainment at a couple of poor Basset Hounds’ expense.

Maggie was having none of it though. She tried to rip the snowball out of my hand. All she got was my glove instead!

I love how they have so much fun when it snows.

It makes me love it when it snows even more!

I let them go out and play one more time after dark.

For this, Maggie was eternally grateful.

All was so calm...

As the sun went down, the snow started piling up. I love the way it looked on the tree branches.

As darkness fell, everything outside was so quiet and peaceful under the fresh blanket of snow.

These Birch trees must be pretty weak though, because lots of branches gave way under that little bit of snow. We were surprised!

... and pretty.

We got a good four or five inches. Which is a lot for the Portland area - especially for a snowstorm that wasn’t supposed to happen.

The next day, the snow was still sticking.

Then reality set in and we knew it was time to get to work.

All I can say is I’m glad the Wayneman is home. He’s a WAY better driveway shoveler than me. This kind of work boosts his ego and makes him feel good to be a man!

That’s what I tell myself when I am watching him out the window from inside the nice, warm house while he is out there working.

Our snow is all gone now. But, it was sure fun while it lasted!

Just ask these two.
