Family Visit

Last weekend, my Grandma, my aunt Sharon and my cousins, Helen and Laura came down from Tacoma to visit for the day.
We were hoping to have a nice BBQ where we could sit outside and enjoy the last of the summer weather. All last week, the weather was beautiful. Up until Saturday. The forecast was rain all day. So, I set everything up in the house. It turned out to be a nice day after a small bit of morning rain. We actually could have set up outside.
It all worked out though. No one seemed to mind eating BBQ inside. We just enjoyed visiting with each other.
The Wayneman BBQ’d steaks for everyone. We also had macaroni salad and Pioneer Woman’s most awesome Baked Beans. Which are just so good.
After we ate, my dad and the Wayneman were a huge help and did all the dishes and put the food away...
...leaving us ladies to visit amongst ourselves. Maybe there was a little too much estrogen in the room for two men to handle.
Haley had the best time and absolutely adored Helen and Laura. She spent her time after dinner drawing pictures for the girls.
She impressed us all with her artistic talent!
Speaking of artistic talent, for dessert, I tried my hand at a trifle for the first time. I think it came out pretty good. Hard to go wrong with cake and berries though.
The best thing about my trifle were the raspberries on the top. Have you ever seen such luscious raspberries?? They were huge!
The best thing about the day was getting to spend time with everyone. We hadn’t seen Grandma, Sharon and the girls in a long time.
They all seemed to enjoy visiting with Haley. All Haley wanted to do was hang out with Sharon, Helen and Laura upstairs and have as she called it “girls club time.”
Emily and Grandma had a little time to themselves too.
For Haley though, it was all about Helen and Laura. As Haley emphatically said, “Helen and Laura are the BEST THING EVER!!!” Haley couldn’t get enough of the girls.
For me, I just enjoyed spending time visiting with my family. Something we definitely should do more often!
Jennifer also made everyone’s favorite Not Yo Mama’s Banana Pudding from Paula Deen. Dessert was better than dinner!
