This museum has so many wonderful treasures inside.  Plus admission to get in is absolutely free!  Can’t beat that - especially in London, which is one of the most outrageously expensive cities in the world.  So, we gladly take FREE in London when we can get it!

The interior of the London National Gallery is just beautiful.  The walls are all wallpapered with fabric.  Marble everywhere.  It really is a beautiful place to visit.

This museum houses works by Picasso. However, Picasso is just not my cup of tea that’s for sure. When you look at all the gorgeous Renaissance Art in Italy, Picasso’s work just doesn’t really hold a candle to it in my book.  But, to each his own I suppose.

The London National Gallery also has this beautiful unfinished work by Leonardo da Vinci.  It is called The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne and Saint John the Baptist from 1499-1500.

One of the walls in a hallway in the Gallery pays homage to some of the greats like Bellini, Leonardo and Raphael.

After we left the London National Gallery, we jumped on the Tube at Charing Cross station and headed over to Knightsbridge.  I loved the decor at the Charing Cross Tube station. It told the story in tile of Trafalgar Square.  It was very nice!

Our destination at Knightsbridge was the most expensive and luxurious department store in the world - Harrods!

This store is absolutely HUGE!!

It is a tourist destination all to itself!

This is the Room of Luxury.

This is where you find wonderful things like Louis Vuitton!

Dare I call this the Harrods Food Court!?!

It is certainly like no “food court” you would ever see in our malls!  This place is beyond description.  The pictures do not do it justice!  Not only is it beautiful...

... but you can also get anything in the world that you would want in this place.  Ostrich eggs anyone?  They are only 30 pounds each egg - that’s about $50 U.S. dollars.

There is another train (the Heathrow Express) that you can take from the airport to get you closer to the city center before you get on the Underground, however, that train was quite pricy - I think about 25 pounds each.  It saves you about a half hour, but for that amount of money, we figured what’s an hour Tube ride to get to Trafalgar?  I think the way we did it was certainly the most cost efficient.

Once we dumped our stuff at our hotel (The Trafalgar), we went out to do  some London sightseeing.  Since our hotel was right at Trafalgar Square, we decided to visit the London National Gallery Museum which was about a two minute walk from our hotel doorstep.

This place sold everything from meat...

... to extremely overpriced Philly Cream Cheese!  Who wants to pay $5.50 for a 6 ounce package of Cream Cheese?  Any takers??

They weren’t kidding when they say Harrods is the most expensive store in the world.  It was crazy!  Remember when we went to Paris and spent $30 for breakfast for a few little pastries at Laduree on the Champs-Elysees?  Well, Harrods also has Laduree right in the store!  This should give you an idea of how expensive Harrods is - Laduree was the cheapest thing we could find in Harrods!

Not only did these escalators seem to go on forever, but they were also beautiful!

Harrods is owned by Mohamed Al Fayed, the father of Dodi Al Fayed.  He was Princess Diana’s boyfriend that died with Diana.  The Al Fayeds set up a nice memorial to Diana and Dodi in the store.

They even had an Opera singer singing over the balconies by the Egyptian Escalators!  Pretty crazy!

We were in the store on a Sunday, and it was so crowded!  You couldn’t move without bumping into people.  The place was packed!  It was funny because the Wayneman was standing behind a couple of ladies looking at something, and one of the women, backed right into him.  No big deal, until she got super nasty and started complaining about people running into her. The Wayneman had to say something, so he said, “that’s funny that you complain about me, when you are the one that ran into me!”  She just copped him a total attitude.  While this was going on, I walked up and it was hilarious because not 30 seconds later, she smacked right into me!  Then she started giving me an attitude!  She was SOOO nasty!!  So, I said to her, “you just ran into me, like you ran into him!  Then you complain when you are the one running into other people - you nasty thing!!”  That shut her up pretty quick.  As soon as I said that to her, I had to laugh to myself, because I sounded EXACTLY like my Grandpa!  But, she was just way too rude to ignore.  She was one of those snobby, rich women in all her furs and diamonds.  She was awful!  Not our brightest moment on our trip, but the Wayneman and I were glad we didn’t let her get away with treating us that way.  I am kicking myself for not taking a picture of her so you can see what I am talking about!

For us, Harrods was for exploring and window shopping.  That is easy to do in a place like Harrods.  Check out the Egyptian Escalators.

Inside that glass pyramid is the glass Diana drank out of the night she died.  It has her lipstick on it.  It also has a supposed engagement ring that Dodi bought for Diana the day before they died.

When you order ribs here, they put a bib on you. Don’t mess with the Wayneman when he is hungry for ribs.

After we left Harrods, we were starving since it was dinnertime.  We found this restaurant near by and decided to give it a try - The Chicago Rib Shack.  We figured we would give London’s version of American ribs a try.

They give you these to clean yourself up with after you eat.

I had a nice iceberg wedge salad with Bleu Cheese.  I hadn’t had Bleu Cheese since we left America so this looked really good to me!

I also had a burger which was very good.  I couldn’t even eat half of it though.  It was big!

They are really into pigs at this place!

After dinner, we got back on the Underground to head back to our hotel.  You always hear on TV that they say “Mind the Gap” in London on the Tube.  Well, they really do say that.  A LOT!

Mind the Gap everywhere!

When we got back to our hotel, we were ready to call it a night.  But first, we made a quick stop to the rooftop terrace at the hotel. It had an amazing view of the city!  Well, hello there, Big Ben!

After that, it was off to bed for us! We had a busy day planned the next day exploring more of London!
