The Way They Were
The Way They Were

Haley has always loved her Uncle Wayne. For the longest time, she has thought he was the best thing ever (see Should I Be Jealous?).
Haley used to call the Wayneman, “her man.”
Haley always loved roughhousing and playing with “her man.”
She used to want to marry the Wayneman. She even imagined what their wedding day would be like and drew a picture of it.
Of course, she drew her uncle Wayne to look like a bug with a bow tie on. But, who sees a bug when love is blind?
However, a five-year old’s love is fickle and ever changing. Haley started school and has a class full of boys. Boys that are a lot more appealing to her these days. The poor Wayneman didn’t stand a chance. Haley told me he is old news and that she has a new man at school.
Oh well, she was bound to move on. At least we have the memories of the way things used to be.
